Champagne

Champagne
To be classified as Champagne, a wine has to do more than sparkle. It has to come from the Champagne region in northeast France. The best Champagne will have a combination of freshness, richness, and delicacy, with a gentle strength that very few sparkling wines can achieve elsewhere. Perhaps the secret to the success of Champagne lies in its location, as it is France's northernmost vineyard, making the growing season very long and cool. Or it could be the unique Methode Champenoise process, a second fermentation in the bottle that produces delicate bubbles with the classic smell of brioche and toffee. Perfect as an aperitif, this is a wine for celebration, as no other wine is so closely associated with joy and festivity.

Grower-Producers

Grower-Producer is a term used to describe those who bottle wine exclusively from the vineyards themselves. This practice may not seem like a radical idea, but it is far from the norm in Champagne. In many ways, these wines are the antithesis of most Champagne on the market. Instead of blending, many producers use only one varietal, from one vineyard or village. In addition to demonstrating a pure expression of the land, Grower Champagne often offers tremendous value.
