AboutThis wine list represents my continuing work, and that of my staff, over a period of eighteen years, during which time we have tasted thousands of wines, often presented by the Italian winemakers themselves. Now is the ideal time to enjoy wine, particularly Italian wines. Despite a great tradition, the wine styles we see today are relatively new, as the whole industry has been modernized, and regions from Piemonte to Sicily are now producing dynamic wines of great quality. The new challenge for winemakers will be to preserve the essence of the many native varietals Italy is blessed with, amidst the pressure to produce more modern, unprecedented wines by using non-native varietals. The strength of this list is in the region of Piemonte, as I am particularly fond of its principal varietal, Nebbiolo. Our Tuscan selection is also quite extensive, as Tuscany is the most innovative and dynamic region, and has led the Italian wine revolution. Recently I rediscovered the beauty of Amarone, a wine that is quintessentially Italian due to its complex method of vinification, and Vin Santo, a dessert wine that has been produced for centuries, but is just now beginning to achieve its extraordinary potential. The wine list is presented geographically, starting in the northern regions and finishing in the islands. This is meant to aid the reader in better understanding the layout of the country. Over the years, Acquerello has become a meeting place for visiting Italian winemakers, and we will continue to host these ambassadors of the Italian wine world with events focusing on their wines. Giancarlo Paterlini To complement our selection we are happy to open any bottle not represented on the list with a $35 charge per bottle. Limit two bottles (750ml) per party. For each bottle purchased one corkage fee will be waived.
